Parish Council Notes - February

Date: 15 February 2019

I was not present at the last two Parish Council Meetings, one of which was a special meeting called solely to discuss planning issues, so I won’t be summarising what happened at either meeting.  The Minutes are published on the council web site.

I do need to let you know that the council will be deciding on the recipient of the Watson Bowl at its meeting in April so please give thought to any nominations you might have.  The Watson Bowl is awarded to the person (or persons) who have contributed significantly to Gislingham in the previous year or years.  The present holder is Ann Cottee.  There are no rules about who can receive the Bowl, which will be engraved with the name of the recipient and comes with a certificate of merit, except that the recipient cannot be a current Parish Councillor. The Bowl will be presented at the Annual Village meeting held in May so please pass your nominations to the Clerk.

The second point I would like to raise concerns the local elections to be held in May.  As well as County and District Councillors the election will be for Parish Councillors.  This year a number of councillors are stepping down so there will be a need for new volunteers to take over and help to shape the future of our village.  Please give the role serious consideration.  It is not an onerous task and allows you to be a part of the decision-making process that protects and enhances life in our village.  The strap line for the Council is “Working for our Community” and that is the driving force of your Parish Council.  It is rewarding to be a part of it.  Nominations papers must be soon so please don’t delay.  All papers must be hand delivered to BMSDC by the end of March and if you would like the Clerk to deliver them for you, they need to be with her by mid March.  Nominations papers can be emailed from the Parish clerk or there is much more information on the MSDC website.

Finally, most of us have a great affection for the many trees in Suffolk and around our village.  An organization has been launched to help protect and monitor the health of our trees.  The details are at  If you would like to become a tree warden for Gislingham, please contact the Parish Clerk.

The next Parish Council help desk will be in the Village Hall on Saturday 2 March from 10am to 12 noon.  The next Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday 18 March at 7:30pm.  Generally, the first point of contact for any matters to do with the Parish Council is the Parish Clerk, Miss Teresa Davis on or by phone on 07719208444.  The alternative is Cllr Chris Pitt at or 01379 788795.

Full Draft Minutes as well as much other Parish Council information can be found on the Parish Council website at
