It has been pointed out that in last month’s Messenger I stated that it was the 387 Bus
serving Gilsingham that was being retained until at least March 2020, apologies this should
have read the No. 456. At the Parish Council meeting held on 16 th September County
Councillor Jessica Fleming advised that discussions were ongoing at Suffolk County Council
and she would keep us advised on outcomes when known
District Councillor Rowland Warboys advised that he has received some bids for Locality
Funding. Please could any group wishing to apply for funding from the Locality Budget
contact Cllr Warboys on The deadline is December,
but it would be helpful if he received bids by the beginning of November. Councillor
Warboys said there had been some issues with the new Waste Collection rounds which
were introduced in July. Hopefully things will have settled down by now but if you do have
any issues please visit the Mid Suffolk District Council website to report the problem.
The Outdoor Sport and Recreation sub-Committee had their first meeting on Friday 20 th
September at 6.30pm in the Village Hall. Meetings are open to the public and are
advertised on the Gislingham Parish Council Website and on the Parish Council Noticeboard.
We are still looking for residents to join the Finance Working Party. Please contact the Chair
for more details.
I would encourage all residents to look at the Agendas and Minutes on the Gislingham
Parish Council website at to keep up to date on items
which are discussed at meetings by Councillors. At these meetings there is time set aside
for the public to voice any concerns they have in the Village.
The next Parish Council Help Desk will be in the Village Hall on Saturday 5 th October from
10am to 12 noon.
The next Parish Council Meeting will be held on Monday 21st October at 7.30pm.

Parish Council Notes - September

Date: 30 September 2018

It was with regret Jo Cripps submitted her resignation as a Councillor. She had been on the Council for about a year and had contributed greatly to debates and to the work of the Council, most recently taking responsibility as the Council liaison for the Merchant Navy Day held on 4 September. Jo has been a staunch supporter of the Council and her sound views and opinions will be missed. However, that does mean that there is a vacancy on the Parish Council so if you would like to help maintain and improve our village this is an opportunity. There are few qualifications to becoming a Councillor but, importantly, you must have lived in the Parish, or have run a business in the Parish for one year. If you are interested, please contact the Parish Clerk.

Two events for your calendar. First is the Autumn Litter Pick taking place on 28th October 10.00- 1100 meeting at the Village Hall. The clocks will have just changed so you will have an extra hour in bed to prepare! Secondly, Jacqui Hutton who headed the archaeological team on the Lovell’s site on the Thornham Rd will be returning to give and illustrated talk on what they have discovered about the very early history of our village. She will be presenting in the Village Hall on 10th October starting at 7:30pm. The talk was very well attended, even though there were no visual aids. This time could be more popular so advisable to be there early to get a seat. Finally, with the October edition of The Messenger you have an opportunity to tell us the Parish Council where you would like improvements made to our village. As a result of the new houses being built in the village the Parish Council has a substantial sum to invest in village infrastructure. But we need to know where you want the money to be invested. Please send a short time filling in the consultation document included in this Messenger. Somebody will collect it from you so there is no need to post it or return it anywhere. You will see that the options are far ranging, and it will take some time to analyse the results but with your help we will be able to make significant improvements to our village. Finally, if you would like to discuss the document or would like help completing it, Councillors and the Parish Clerk will be on hand at the October Book Sale/Help Desk to offer advice. The next Parish Council help desk will be in the Village Hall on Saturday 6 October from 10am to 12 noon. The next Parish Council Meeting will be on Monday 19 October at 7:30pm. Generally, the first point of contact for any matters to do with the Parish Council is the Parish Clerk, Miss Teresa Davis on or by phone on 07719208444. The alternative is Cllr Chris Pitt at or 01379 788795. Full Draft Minutes as well as much other Parish Council information can be found on the Parish Council website at
